The Normal
Zelah Roberts can usually be found with her head in a book, and more
often than not, that book will be a romance. Writing a novel was always
her number 1 ambition, and eventually, with Midsummer Man (released on
15 June, 2021) it became a reality. Midsummer Lady, the second novel in
the series, is currently underway.
When not absorbed in the latest enthralling page turner, Zelah enjoys
cooking for family and friends and taking long walks in the beautiful English countryside. She is a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association and is working towards an MA in Creative Writing.

Zelah lives in Durham, UK, with her partner and son.

The Weird

Now that the normal stuff is out of the way, here are some little-known but absolutely true facts that she rarely admits to in public. Zelah Roberts:

-
had 8 pet hamsters as a child, all called Henry. When Henry VIII died, she got a cat.
-
was, as a youngster, a huge fan of TV programmes about the supernatural, including Dr. Who, The Snow Spider and Rentaghost. Nowadays, she binge reads supernatural and fantasy stories, and particularly loves the writing of Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Maria V. Snyder, Emily Gee, Susan Cooper and Diana Wynne Jones.
-
once received a Valentine’s Day card from an admirer which described her as ‘a good egg’ (and it wasn’t a yolk)!
-
hates horror films. She watched Return of the Body Snatchers as a teenager and never got over it!
-
loves Scotland. The accents. The bonhomie. The Kilts. Outlander. Say no more!
-
is an avid poetry reader (and occasional writer). It’s almost impossible to pick favourites – too many to choose from – but John Donne and Andrew Marvell are up there. She couldn’t resist the temptation to use a quote from Andrew Marvell in Midsummer Man – probably because the admonishment to ‘tear our pleasures with rough strife / through the iron gates of life’ often pops into her mind when she’s under stress. It’s a beautiful reminder to enjoy life, even when circumstances are at their most challenging.
-
has a serious hot tea addiction. What is life without a good strong brew to keep you going? Cuppa, anyone?
-
collects books signed by the author. There’s something magical about knowing an author has held that very book and written in it.
-
is an eejit when it comes to the mysteries of social media. Fortunately, she has some truly wonderful family members and a great team of young friends who are helping her navigate this amazing new world (see Meet My Team).
-
can’t wait to see her first book, Midsummer Man, published. It will be published by Totally Bound the week before midsummer (naturally!) on 15 June 2021. Follow my adventures in publishing as I learn what it’s like to be an author launching her first book on my blog!
